Lafayette Police Friday distinguished the shooter as John Russel Houser, 59.
“He’s sort of a vagabond,” Police Chief Jim Craft told a news gathering.
Houser was from Alabama however had been staying at a motel in Lafayette, he said.
Police recouped wigs, glasses and masks in an inquiry of the room. His vehicle “with exchanged permit labels” was stopped by the motion picture theater, Craft said.
“It is obvious that he was determined to shooting and getting away,” he said. He said Houser shot 13 rounds in the shooting.
Houser is from Alabama and has no known association with Lafayette, police said. Houser was depicted as a vagabond by police, who said he had likely been in Lafayette since right on time July, staying at a motel.
“It is obvious he was determined to shooting and getting away” before police constrained him once again into the theater where he shot himself to death, Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft said at the news meeting, clarifying that his 1995 blue Lincoln Continental was situated close to the way out.
Police discovered wigs and glasses in his auto and motel room, Craft said.
The shooting happened at the Grand 16 Theater on Johnston Street where a screening of Amy Schumer’s “Trainwreck” was playing, as per the Associated Press.
